        Harpoon vs 1.3X
        1. As above except select "User Scenario".

NOTE - The "Nuclear Release Possible" option must be set to on
for the scenario to operate correctly.

Scenario Notes:

1. This scenario is based upon a naval action which occurred in Larry
Bond's new novel CAULDRON.

2. Eurcon (European Confederation) is at war with the Combined Forces
of the U.S., Great Britain, Norway, Poland, Czech, Slovakia and
Hungary. The Baltic is controlled by Eurcon and Combined Forces
supply efforts to the Eastern European states through the Polish port
of Gdansk are prevented. Combined Forces naval units in the North Sea
and air units stationed in Great Britain have almost succeeded in
destroying Eurcon Baltic bases and opening up the Baltic Sea as a
supply route to Poland. Eurcon knows that if the Baltic can be used
to resupply Poland that Eurcon's defeat in the land war will occur in
just a short time. In an effort to prevent this the irrational French
Command Authorities authorize and launch a nuclear strike against 2
U.S. Carrier Battle Groups in the North Sea. Vice Admiral Ward's
skill and a lot of luck prevent the destruction of the CBG's. As a
result of France's crossing the nuclear threshold Combined Forces
Command Authorities authorize the destruction of all French tactical
and strategic nuclear forces with conventional weapons.

3. In the novel the Combined Forces are successful and destroy
France's nuclear capability. In this scenario which depicts 4 SSN's
sent to destroy a French SSBN you might not be so lucky.

4. The computer can play either side.

5. I suggest you play the Combined Forces (Blue) side first since if
you choose to play the French first you will know where the boomer's
approximate location is (even though it has a number of variable
starting points).

6. The French boomer is damned hard to find and to make matters even
worse Blue must avoid detection by ASW air units or neutralize the
bases from which they fly (not easy).

7. Total victory is pretty easy to achieve as the French player.

8. Total victory is difficult to achieve as the U.S. player.

I have yet to read a bad Larry Bond novel and Cauldron is no
exception. Its a great book with multiple interleaved plots that all
relate to each other. If you enjoyed Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising"
or any of Larry Bond's other books you will like "Cauldron". I highly
recommend reading it.

Enjoy
